Always knew of SN (now SM) for years and having read great reviews and seeing the calibre of cars they deal with I decided to get my car in for a service and diagnostic for a coolant leak in June 2024. Service and MOT was done within the hour, and later that day they told me the water pump was gone as it was not genuine.

I told them I have a 12 month warranty from the garage that changed the pump and I could get it repaired there. They then told me that to wait and they will check over the car to see if anything else was causing the coolant leak, and they continued to have the car for 3 days.

They finally they said the charge cooler was gone and that initially it was a £900 job, and after negotiating gave me a final price of £780 which I knew was not a reasonable price.

I declined the job and then the forceful tactics came through, with them saying the head gasket will blow etc. if I keep driving like this (even though I was going to get the job done asap at a proper price as soon as I got the car back from them).

3 days after, I went to pick up the car. On driving it, it was rough idling which it did not do before, so took it back and mechanic plugged back the ignition lead which he left unplugged to try and scare me to pay the £780. With it no longer rough idling, I went back to my garage who changed the part with genuine TPS item and labour for a total of £460!

Overall, I am sure others have had a great experience with SM, but I want to put my own experience here, me being young and with my first car they decided to take advantage, with absurd quote, scaremongering, and holding my car for days with no updates, unless I had to go straight to the garage and ask directly as no one on the phone knew the status of my car.
